A Tulsa, Okla.-based megachurch pastor apologized after a video surfaced of him rubbing spit on a churchgoer during a sermon.

Its never my intention to distract others from Gods Word and the message of Jesus even with illustrations! Transformation Church pastor Michael Todd wrote in a tweet on Monday.

I apologize for my example being too extreme and disgusting! I Love Everybody, Todd said. #REPRESENT

A video surfaced Sunday showing Todd and a man standing on stage while Todd is discussing a sermon about trusting God and his vision. Todd then proceeds to spit in his hand before rubbing it on the churchgoer’s face.

The moment caught the audience of churchgoers in attendance to be off-guard and some gasps were heard in the church services.

Many social media users have criticized Todd for the sermon, citing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the recent spread of the omicron variant in the U.S, according to NBC affiliate KJRH.

Had never heard of Pastor Mike Todd before today, The Atlantic columnist Jemele Hill wrote in a tweet. But I truly understand now why the elders used to frequently tell us that were in the last days.

If your pastor rubs spit on your face (looking at you, Mike Todd), find a new pastor, United Church Rev. Dr. Chuck Currie wrote in a tweet.
